► Linux Window Managers

Note - Most Window Managers have a rather steep learning curve (especially for users accustomed to Windows and Mac). Customization (or "ricing") is a requirement. See below for some resources.

▷ X11 Window Managers

  • awesomewm - Highly customizable dynamic window manager. Configured via Lua. / Use development (git) version / Arch Wiki
  • dwm - Lightweight dynamic window manager that follows the controversial suckless philosophy. Not recconmended for beginners. / Arch Wiki
  • qtile - Simple and user-friendly dynamic window manager written and configured in Python. Actually supports Wayland and X11 which is pretty rare. / Arch Wiki
  • xmonad - Dynamic and tiling window manager written and configured in Haskell. / Arch Wiki
  • bspwm - Tiling window manager with an impossible to say and remember name. / Binds / Arch Wiki

▷ Wayland Compositors

  • Hyprland - A dynamic tiling Wayland compositor that does not sacrifice on its looks. / Arch Wiki
  • Sway - i3-compatible Wayland compositor based on wlroots or SwayFx - Sway, but with eye candy! / Arch Wiki
